Located on what the company claims was once an ancient Buffalo Crossing on the banks of the Kentucky River in Franklin County. The Sazerac Company, an American family owned producer and importer based in New Orleans, LA purchased the distillery in 1992 and is now the parent company.
The History of our Hand Selected 9 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
During an unprecedentedly cold January in 2014, our General Manager Chris Levesque & Operations Officer Charles Archer traveled to Kentucky to wander the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. They miraculously visited 12 distilleries in only 5 days and sampled some of the finest bourbons in the world. Call them bourbon aficiandos, connoisseurs, or just plain drunks - nonetheless, these guys received tutorials, education and tastings from Master Distillers like Jimmy Russell of Wild Turkey, Bourbon Ambassadors such as David Pudlo of Makers Mark and many more.
It was in Frankfurt, KY where Chris and Chuck met with Beau Beckman, the Barrel Select Manager for the distinguished Buffalo Trace Distillery and thier own personal tour guide for the day. Beau Beckman is the great, great, great, great grandson of famous Kentucky Distiller E.H. Taylor and assists VIP customers in the hand-selection process.
Levesque and Archer had the honor of drawing samples from 4 Buffalo Trace barrels; each a different age and from a different location in the barrel warehouse.
Of the four hand-selected barrels they sampled, there was ONE barrel that stood out; from Lot No. 05 C 01 - a nine and a half year old bourbon, rested since May 1st, 2005. This unmatched bourbon showcased aromas of gum, heavy molasses, subtle mint and vanilla. A few drops of water brings out a fruity nose. Brown sugar and spice take command on the palate and this bourbon finishes with a dry oak and spicy vanilla flavor.
